STAR Net is once again collaborating with NASA’s GLOBE Observer team to get exciting cloud-related STEM resources into the hands of public libraries! Are you looking for a fun and engaging way to bring NASA and cloud science into your library programs this summer? Look no further than NUBE – a new cloud matching card game from GLOBE Clouds!
From the GLOBE team:
The idea for NUBE (Spanish for “CLOUD” and pronounced “noo-beh”) came up when the NASA GLOBE Clouds team was thinking of ways to engage learners of all ages. Card games can do that by bringing together families and friends, and they can be enjoyed by kids and adults. NUBE players will win when they get rid of all their cards after matching cloud types and/or shades of blue. There are also special cards, such as “rainmakers” that will have players reverse or skip turns, as well as “mystery” cards that will have players describe cloud types using words, a sketch, or even movement. The first version of NUBE was tested by librarians at four branches of the Queens Public Library system, in New York. Each librarian played the game with groups of patrons of different ages, from young children to teenagers and even adults who joined some of the programs. NUBE was also tested by a team at Challenger Center and a team at the Center for STEM Teaching and Learning at the Northern Arizona University. The feedback from all testers was fundamental to make improvements to NUBE. After several iterations and the amazing work of a super talented graphic designer, NUBE is now being produced and is almost ready to be distributed!
STAR Net will select 250+ public library applicants to receive (free of charge) sets of NUBE cards. These cards are designed to be used as part of your library programming and not given away to patrons. We will select the first 250 applicants (provided they meet application criteria), determine how many decks have been requested/are leftover, and then distribute the rest of the decks (in sets of two) to applicants based on when they signed up.
More information:
- Up to 1,000 NUBE games will be distributed to at least 250 libraries.
